About

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE), founded in 1950, is a not-for-profit educational and service organization. SWE is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women. SWE empowers women to succeed and advance in those aspirations and be recognized for their life-changing contributions and achievements as engineers and leaders.

Provide programs to encourage girls and women to enter engineer and encourage members to attain high levels of achievement in their fields.

Increase visibility of SWE and its progams to members, the technical community and the general public.

Develop programs to encourage and sustain increase participation in the fields of science and engineering reflective of our diverse population.
Resources
Increase the Society's resources for the purpose of supporting high quality programs and services to meet its goals.

SWE Philadelphia Section History

The Philadelphia Section was one of the original chartering sections of SWE on May 27, 1950. In 1980 the Philadelphia Section branched to form the Lehigh Valley Section. Then again on April 24, 1999 the Philadelphia Section branched to form the DelMar Peninsula Section. Today, the section encompasses southern Pennsylvania east of the Susquehanna River. Many Section members live/work in nearby communities in Southern New Jersey. The area's wide technical diversity supports a membership of over 150. Our section members range from the recent graduate to the retired PhD, staff members at Fortune 500 companies to business owners. The Philadelphia Section is part of Region E - Mid-Atlantic of The Society of Women Engineers.
