Scholarship FAQ
Question: I am a previous winner, am I allowed to apply again?
Answer: Yes.
Question: I am graduate student in Environmental Engineering Department. I wonder if it would be possible for me to apply since I am an international student.
Answer: Yes. International students are eligible.
Question: Should the evaluation form my advisor is supposed to submit be in a sealed envelope and mailed separately, or can s/he give it to me to mail with my other forms?
Answer: Either form of submittal is acceptable.
Question: I am a PhD student. I have a graduate assistantship; does that decrease my chances or disqualify me from the scholarship?
Answer: No, it does not. Feel free to apply.
Question: I am not sure when I am going to graduate, can I still apply?
Answer: Yes, please put your best estimate on your graduation year.
Question: Is it preferred/are there any benefits if the scholarship application is received early? Alternatively, would it be more convenient if received closer to the February deadline. I know that sometimes paperwork can be misplaced so I just want to do whatever would be best.
Answer: Judges are supplied with the date the application is received.
Question: I feel that many of the reasons why I might deserve the scholarship are not fully represented within the application. If I supply a resume would that be looked at as well?
Answer: You can include any additional information, as you see fit.
Question: Our engineering programs are new and subsequently we do not have ABET accreditation at this point. ABET requires us to have completed 4 years of a program before they will even come and visit. We do not anticipate any problems, and are directing the programs with ABET in mind, but at this point we are not accredited. Are our students eligible for the scholarships?
Answer: Yes, certain non-ABET accredited program students are eligible for our section scholarships.
Question: Are we allowed to use a supervisor/boss from an internship as our recommender?
Answer: Yes, your boss at an internship could be considered an advisor and is allowed to be your recommender.
