Biographies of Officers



Danielle Dunn - President

Danielle Dunn first joined SWE as a freshman at Rice University in Houston, Texas and served as a Vice President of the collegiate section her senior year. After graduating in 2003 with a B.S. in chemical engineering, she moved to the Philadelphia area to take a job with Merck. Since then she has served as a SWE Philadelphia newsletter editor, followed by a year as Vice President and a workshop coordinator for the Region E Conference hosted at Drexel (FY06). Currently Danielle works in the Merck Research Labs as a staff engineer in fermentation process development for new vaccines and biological products. She enjoys reading, singing in the car (or the lab), and traveling as often as her budget and vacation time will allow.



Krista Pohl - Senior Vice President, Temple Counselor

Krista currently is a civil designer in the rail department at HNTB Corporation. Since joining HNTB in 2003, Krista has worked on jobs for PennDOT, Amtrak, CSX, DM&E, SEPTA, and PATCO. Prior to joining HNTB, she worked for DMJM+Harris and Amtrak. Her work experience includes local transportation planning, urban design and land-use, track design, track maintenance, capital maintenance project controls, estimating, and scheduling. Her current projects have her out at nights inspecting track on PATCO and redesigning curves for increased speed on Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering Systems from the University of Pennsylvania in 2001, and she is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering Systems from Temple University. Krista was a student member of SWE all four years in college. She joined as a professional in 2006. Krista currently serves as the Scholarship Chair and Temple University Counselor. In her spare time, she is studying for the PE exam.



Jennifer Garner - Vice President

Jennifer has worked as an engineer for Merck & Co., Inc. for the past eight years. Upon graduation from Stevens Institute of Technology with a B.E. in Chemical Engineering, she started her career in the Capital Project Management department in New Jersey. While in New Jersey, she served as SWE Membership Chair and as the Counselor for Stevens. In 2002, she moved to Pennsylvania and became a Senior Manufactuing Engineer for the Bulk Vaccine production area. Presently, she has transitioned to the Vaccine Technology and Engineering department and will be working with many operating areas and outside suppliers of raw materials. In the Philadelphia section, she served one year as Section Representative and continues to be the Swarthmore counselor. In 2005-2006, Jennifer served as the co-Chair for the Region E Conference held with Drexel University in March 2006. Jennifer enjoys fencing, walking, numerous outdoor activities, and watching college football. She is also a member of the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers.



Cassandra Shoup - Vice President

Cassie has been an active member of SWE for six years. While attending Purdue University she held the following collegiate SWE leadership positions: Office Assistant, TEAMS Outreach Chair, Membership Director, and Section President. Cassie is employed by MWH as an associate engineer and works on environmental remediation projects. Her goal as Secretary for the upcoming year is to organize and track the section's activities in an effective and useful means that will allow the section to grow and build on previous successes.



Stephanie Carroll - Secretary

Stephanie has been actively involved in SWE for the past five years at Drexel University. While attending Drexel University, she has devoted her time as the Fundraising/CEO Chair, Secretary, and two consecutive terms as the Vice President helping to coordinate all SWE events. She will be graduating in June with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. She has completed three COOPs as a Process Analytical Scientist at GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals and will begin her career in July as an engineer for the Viral Vaccine Technology and Engineering Department at Merck & Co., Inc. Stephanie enjoys playing softball and volleyball, watching movies, cooking, creating care packages for the men oversea and staying as busy as possible.



Rebecca Snelling Rose - Treasurer

Rebecca has been involved in SWE for 5 years, starting as a member of the Smith College collegiate SWE section from 2002-2006. She was vice-president of the section her junior year and president of the section her senior year. Upon graduation, she moved to the Philadelphia area and began working as an analyst for Accenture Consulting where she is currently designing, building, and testing interfaces between two databases.



Heather Bernardin - Section Representive

Heather has been a professional member of the Philadelphia SWE section for 17 years. During that time she has held the positions of newsletter editor, secretary, scholarship chair, counselor, vice president, president and section representative for the section. Her goal for the year is to get the Philadelphia Section more involved in regional and national matters. Heather is currently self- employed as an IT contractor. Firms who need supplemental staffing hire her, particularly when they are developing new technologies.



Andrea Manning - Section Representive

Andrea Manning joined SWE as a professional member in August 2006. She is currently employed as the Standards Engineer for Engineered Arresting Systems Corporation (ESCO), a division of Zodiac. As Standards Engineer, Andrea is responsible for all configuration control related to the Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS) product line, including creating and maintaining product drawings and installation & maintenance procedures. Andrea is also involved in managing the over 40 research and development programs currently underway for the EMAS product. Mrs. Manning received her dual B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and Science, Technology & Society from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY in their Product Design & Innovation program. She enjoys digging in her garden, dancing, and traveling. She is also a member of ASME.



Alisa Morss Clyne - Alternate Section Representive

Dr. Alisa Morss Clyne is an assistant professor of mechanical engineering at Drexel University. Dr. Clyne received a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University. She was president of her SWE chapter at Stanford and started a diversity program to introduce elementary school children to engineering. After graduation, she worked for four years as a jet aircraft engineer in the Technical Leadership Program at GE Aircraft Engines, concurrently earning a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Clyne recently completed her doctorate in Medical and Mechanical Engineering through the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology. She teaches fluid mechanics and biomechanics at Drexel, and her research investigates the biomechanics and biochemistry of cardiovascular disease. In her spare time, she enjoys competitive volleyball, playing with her dog, and using her engineering skills to try to fix things around the house.

Alisha Trocciola - Collegiate Liaison, Villanova Counselor

Alisha Trocciola has been a member of SWE since her freshman year at Villanova University in 2001. She served as the section President during her senior year. Upon graduation from Villanova in 2005 with a BS in chemical engineering and minor in chemisty, Alisha began working for GlaxoSmithKline located in Conshohocken, PA. Alisha works as a process engineer at GSK Biopharmaceuticals manufacturing facility.

Michelle Lore, a prior student member, has been a professional member since 2003. She graduated from Rutgers Engineering school in 1990, and continued on with her MBA also from Rutgers. Michelle currently works at Elementis, Inc. in Supply Chain as a Global Demand Manager for the Specialties division. She is currently Corporate Chair for the Philadelphia SWE section helping to organize the scholarship fundraising efforts.

Susan Best - Engineers' Week Liaison

Susan L. Best, PE, has been an active member of SWE since 1975. In 1996, she became a Fellow of the Society and is also a Life Member. She has a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Delaware and a MSCE from California State University, Los Angeles. Currently the Director, Traffic Engineering and ITS for Urban Engineers, Inc., she has a broad background in traffic engineering and transportation planning projects. She has been the SWE-Phila Section liaison to the Delaware Valley Engineers Week Council since 1985 and is currently Senior Vice Chair of the council. She has has been a member and chair of several SWE national committees and is currently a member of the Society's bylaws committee. She has been elected as an International Director for the Institute of Transportation Engineers Board of Direction for a three year term beginning in January 2007.

Megan recently graduated from PITT with a B.S in Industrial engineering in December 2006. Since that time she has been working as a manufacturing engineer for Thomas Medical Products Inc.

Tori has been actively involved in SWE for the past 10 years. In 2000, she received her BS in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Computers from the University of Pittsburgh. While attending Pitt, she served in variety of SWE positions including secretary. Currently, Tori is the Philadelphia Membership Chair. She has been employed as a Systems Engineer with Lockheed Martin, IS&GS for the past seven years. Tori has M.S. in Systems Engineering from Penn State University and an MBA from Villanova.

Tessa Anodide - Newsletter Editor

Tessa Anodide joined SWE as a professional member in 2006. She has been employed as a Systems Engineer with Lockheed Martin, MS2 for the past four years, primarily focusing on Radar and Systems Analysis. Currently, she is involved with the LM Advanced Technical Leadership Program – a 2 year rotation programs designed to challenge and grow both professionally and technically. Tessa received her B.S. in Applied Mathematics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and her M.S. in Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. She was first introduced to SWE through the LM-SWE chapter where she is involved with Women in Engineering Day, Engineers Week and Space Day activities. Additionally, Tessa will be presenting a seminar as part of the Career Enhancement Series on "The Art of Negotiations: Strategies for Women" at the SWE 2007 National Conference.

Lisa has been a member of the Society of Women Engineers since joining the student section at Carnegie Mellon while studying Electrical & Computer Engineering. In her sophmore year, Lisa changed majors to Computer Science after realizing she liked programming better than circuits. After graduating from CMU, Lisa worked as a systems engineer for GE Aerospace (now Lockheed) in Valley Forge. As part of GE's Edison Engineering program, Lisa obtained her M.S.E. in Computer & Information Systems from the University of Pennsylvania while working full time. After leaving GE, Lisa worked for First Consulting Group, an IT consulting firm that specialized in the pharmaceutical and health care industries. She then went to work at Siemens Medical as a systems analyst for a hospital revenue management application and then briefly in new product development for a start-up. She is now working at AmerisourceBergen doing IT project management for customer ordering systems. Lisa has held the offices of President, Vice President, Secretary and Section Representation as well as the Publicity, Membership and Career Guidance chairs in the Philadelphia section. Lisa is also the mom to an active 2-year-old daughter who likes to participate in the Widener Mini-Camp panel discussions.

Alexis Wallen - University of Pennsylvania Counselor

Alexis has been a member of the Society of Women Engineers since joining as a student member of Stanford SWE in 1999. During college, she served as section Elementary Outreach Coordinator, Fall Banquet Co-Chair, and Secretary. In 2003, Alexis received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering, and began working at Merck as an engineer supporting manufacturing technology transfer of new vaccines. In 2006, she transitioned to a role in research where she now works to develop manufacturing processes for novel vaccine candidates. Since becoming a professional member of Philadelphia SWE, Alexis has served on the 2006 Region E Conference Committee and as the Counselor for the University of Pennsylvania section. She is currently pursuing a M.S. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania on a part-time basis through the Merck Educational Assistance Program. In her spare time, Alexis enjoys traveling, playing field hockey, and speaking French with any other Francophiles she can find.



Diana Madden - Webmaster, Drexel Counselor

Diana has been actively involved in SWE for the past seven years. In 2004 she received her BS in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Power and minor in Mathematics from Drexel University. While attending Drexel University, she devoted her time as Website Coordinator for two years and then served two consecutive terms as President coordinating all section operations. Currently, Diana is the Philadelphia Website Coordinator and Drexel Counselor. Diana hopes to assist the section in a smooth transition to the new officer structure as well as getting new members involved by creating new committee chairs to better serve the goals of the section. As an engineer-in-training (EIT), Diana's professional accomplishments include designing medium voltage electrical distribution systems for the Philadelphia International Airport and Philadelphia Water Department while working for Schiller and Hersh Associates, a MEP consulting firm. She is a self taught webmaster and has a deep love for cats.
